MTALX is a London headquartered international trading company specialising in non-ferrous metals, alloys and plastic resins. Operating through a global network, the company connects producers and consumers while providing material solutions, market knowledge and reliable international trade execution.
When ISO 9001 certification became a requirement for an important tender opportunity, MTALX appointed Critical Path to develop and implement a Quality Management System suited to its international trading operations.
The immediate priority was to prepare the organisation for its first external certification audit within a three-month timeframe. MTALX already had considerable expertise in global supply chains, non-ferrous metals, alloys and plastic resins. Our role was to formalise this knowledge within a practical Quality Management System.
Critical Path developed bespoke documents and procedures covering areas such as supplier management, customer requirements, risk and opportunity management, document control, operational processes, performance monitoring and continual improvement.
MTALX selected its own certification provider, and we worked closely with its team to guide the organisation successfully through the audit. Over the following nine months, we continued embedding the tailored system into its operations through OSCAR, supported by ongoing consultancy, internal auditing and management reviews.
Critical Path delivered a tailored ISO 9001 consultancy programme, beginning with a review of MTALX’s exiting processes, tender requirements and operational controls.
Our consultants developed the documents and procedures required for the initial certification audit, ensuring that the Quality Management System reflected MTALX’s international commodities trading activities, rather than relying on generic templates.
The management system was hosted and maintained through OSCAR, providing MTALX with a structured digital environment for controlling documents, monitoring actions and managing its ongoing ISO compliance requirements.
Critical Path also delivered internal auditing and management review support. This helped the leadership team assess system performance, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure the Quality Management System remained relevant as the organisation developed.
Alongside its ISO 9001 support, Critical Path provided carbon accounting and Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism consultancy. This focused on helping MTALX understand the emissions information and supply-chain data that may be required when trading carbon-intensive goods, while supporting greater awareness of developing CBAM reporting responsibilities.
