Prepare evidence that can stand up to scrutiny. We help you review environmental information, clarify the basis of claims and prepare for independent verification where required, with a clear distinction between consultancy support and external assurance.

The Validate stage is where environmental and ESG work is tested for credibility. Once impacts have been measured, analysed and reduced, the next step is making sure the data, claims and outputs behind that work are robust enough to stand up to scrutiny. This pillar brings together the services that help clients strengthen the quality of their evidence, improve confidence in environmental declarations and ensure carbon-related statements are supported by a clear and defensible methodology. It is designed for organisations that need their environmental work to be accurate internally, but also credible externally.
At this stage, we help clients review the assumptions, boundaries and evidence behind environmental reporting, product data and carbon claims. This may involve preparing Environmental Product Declarations, strengthening the basis of carbon neutrality statements, improving reporting methodologies or getting data ready for third-party review and external assurance where required. By focusing on transparency, consistency and traceability, the Validate stage helps clients reduce risk, respond to stakeholder scrutiny and prepare for the next step in the journey: Report, where validated information can be communicated with greater confidence.
Relevant current references include ISO 14025:2026 for EPDs and ISO 14068:2026 for carbon neutrality, alongside the applicable LCA standards and programme rules. Critical Path’s consultancy and preparation work is separate from an independent verifier’s or assurance provider’s decision.
We help clients ensure that public statements, product data and environmental outputs are supported by robust evidence, clearer assumptions and a more transparent methodology.
Validated information is easier to use in tenders, procurement processes, investor discussions and broader stakeholder communications where trust and transparency matter.
By strengthening the quality of the underlying data and documentation, clients are better placed to avoid unclear claims, inconsistent reporting and unnecessary reputational risk.
Once environmental data and claims have been validated, clients are in a much better position to move into Report, where progress and performance can be communicated more confidently.
Critical Path can review environmental data, boundaries, calculations, assumptions and supporting records to identify weaknesses before external reporting. This consultancy review helps prepare an evidence trail and clarify limitations. It is distinct from independent verification, assurance or certification, which must be separately scoped under the applicable framework.
We can support lifecycle data, assessment and EPD preparation against applicable product category rules and programme requirements. ISO 14025:2026 provides the current overarching EPD framework alongside the relevant LCA standards. The chosen programme’s verification and publication processes are separate steps. An EPD communicates environmental information; it is not a blanket endorsement of a product.
Not every internal environmental report requires external assurance. The requirement depends on the claim, reporting framework, programme or contract. EPDs must meet their programme’s verification requirements before publication. If a report is described as independently assured or verified, the engagement must support that description; a consultancy review alone is not equivalent.
Yes. We can review the defined boundary, period, footprint calculations, reduction measures, removal enhancements and any offsets supporting a carbon-neutrality statement. The work can be scoped with reference to ISO 14068:2026 and applicable claims requirements. Our review does not itself certify carbon neutrality, verify offsets or establish a net-zero claim.
