SebSpace is a modern coworking and flexible workspace provider based in Cheshire, supporting freelancers, remote workers, start-ups and growing businesses. Operating within a shared office environment, the business manages a dynamic occupancy model with hot-desking areas, private offices, meeting rooms and communal breakout spaces.
Although operating with a small internal team, SebSpace carries responsibilities equivalent to larger commercial premises, including fire safety compliance, workplace risk management and duty of care obligations to members and visitors. The nature of flexible workspace environments introduces specific health and safety considerations, including shared equipment use, lone working risks, electrical safety, visitor access control and emergency evacuation coordination.
To support continued growth while maintaining high safety standards, SebSpace required structured health and safety consultancy aligned with UK workplace regulations.
Critical Path was appointed to deliver comprehensive workplace risk assessment and health and safety consultancy services tailored to the coworking sector.
We conducted a full onsite safety audit covering all operational areas, identifying potential hazards associated with shared facilities, occupancy turnover, electrical equipment, fire evacuation arrangements and contractor management. Particular attention was given to ensuring compliance with UK Health and Safety at Work legislation and fire safety requirements applicable to multi-occupancy premises.
Following the audit, we developed a bespoke Health & Safety Management System designed specifically for flexible workspaces. This included documented workplace risk assessments, fire evacuation procedures, compliance checklists, inspection regimes and practical operational guidance. Our approach ensured that policies were proportionate, practical and easily embedded into daily management routines.
