Noralis: Achieving ISO 9001 Certification

Oscar Compliance

Noralis Ltd, a technology-driven organisation and industry-leading equipment manufacturer, has revolutionised MWD technology. With offices in Austin, USA, and Cheltenham, UK, their product range includes innovative solutions such as MWD Surface Software (NISE), Fully Integrated Directional Module (NDM), and Surface Decoding System (NPD).

Critical Path helped us go from a few men in a shed to a 10+ million-dollar company. The steps we took to go from nothing to full compliance were (overwhelmingly) explained in a few days, but once you get your head around the dizzying requirements, the site helped us build up the documents required over a few months. The website is constructed to make ongoing maintenance a breeze, and come audit time, the auditor can be walked through every section. In fact, 90% of the audit was done by showing a document on the Oscar management system. Great support to date.

The Challenge

Noralis faced the complexity of manufacturing niche products and recognised the need to implement a Quality Management System.

Seeking ISO 9001:2015 certification, they aimed to establish control over their product quality and processes while identifying opportunities for improvement.

How We Helped

Our sales team introduced Noralis to the Oscar solution, meeting their requirements seamlessly. Pleased with the software's capabilities, Managing Director Angus MacLean and his team at Noralis opted to subscribe to Oscar.

We conducted a one-day software installation and ISO 9001 training session at Noralis' Cheltenham offices, collaborating to incorporate essential documentation into the Oscar management system:

Quality Manual: Noralis developed a comprehensive Quality Management System (QMS) documentation based on ISO 9001:2015 requirements.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Integration of critical procedures such as Purchasing, Non-conforming Product Procedures, New Supplier Approval, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procedures.

Context of the Organisation (COTO): Inclusion of an Interested Parties Log, Risks and Opportunities Register, Targets and Objectives/KPIs, and Non-Conformance Report (NCR) and Corrective Action Report (CAR) Log.

The structured documentation within the Oscar system ensures systematic planning of processes and interactions, aligning with the Plan, Do, Check, and Act (PDCA) methodology for continuous improvement.

Results Achieved

The implemented documents support Noralis' top management in effectively managing processes, products, and services. Their robust Quality Management System is now ISO 9001:2015 certified through external UKAS verification audits. This certification assures Noralis' customers that their equipment is manufactured and managed according to rigorous quality standards, ensuring reliability and durability.
