Project Overview

Al Wathba Desert Resort is a luxury Arabian-style hospitality development located approximately 50 kilometres south-east of Abu Dhabi in the Al Wathba district. Set within a desert landscape, the resort was designed to deliver a high-end destination experience combining traditional architectural character with modern hospitality facilities. 

The development spans over 20,000 square metres and comprises hotel rooms, private villas and extensive leisure amenities. Facilities include conference and meeting spaces, spa and wellness areas, all-day dining venues, rooftop and pool bars, and an offsite desert camp experience. The project required coordinated delivery of structural works, high-specification finishes and hospitality fit-out elements within a remote desert environment. 

As a large-scale resort construction project in Abu Dhabi, the scheme required structured project controls, integrated schedule and cost management, and disciplined reporting processes to maintain oversight across engineering, procurement and construction activities. 

Critical Path's Involvement

Critical Path was appointed by Ghantoot Group to provide comprehensive Project Control Services, with a focus on time management, procurement support and structured reporting.

The scope included development and implementation of the baseline construction schedule, integration of cost and schedule work breakdown structures (WBS), and ongoing status updates to ensure alignment between programme performance and commercial tracking.

Progress measurement was undertaken through structured liaison with engineering, procurement and construction contractors. Critical Path implemented Earned Value Management (EVM) methodologies to provide objective performance oversight, including monitoring of the Schedule Performance Index (SPI) and Cost Performance Index (CPI).

Reporting responsibilities included day-to-day programme updates, monthly management reporting and development of executive dashboards to support informed decision-making at senior level.

Through integrated planning, performance measurement and structured reporting, Critical Path strengthened schedule control and enhanced visibility of time and cost risk across this high-profile hospitality development.
