HSH Motor Group is a well-established, family-owned automotive dealership operating across Bristol, Bath and Cardiff. Managing premium Honda and MG showrooms alongside busy mechanical workshops, the organisation operates within a high-risk environment involving vehicle repair activities, hazardous substances, flammable materials and constant customer interaction.
With multiple sites and diverse operational risks, HSH Motor Group required a structured and consistent approach to fire safety compliance and workplace health and safety management. Ensuring compliance with UK fire safety legislation, maintaining safe workshop operations and protecting both staff and members of the public were key priorities.
As a multi-site automotive retail operation, the business needed more than basic compliance documentation. They required a practical, scalable Health & Safety Management System capable of supporting day-to-day operations while strengthening audit readiness and long-term regulatory compliance.
Critical Path was engaged to deliver comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments and Health & Safety consultancy services across all dealership locations. Working closely with senior leadership and site managers, we conducted detailed fire risk assessments aligned with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order and broader UK workplace health and safety regulations.
Our assessment included evaluation of fire alarm zoning, emergency escape routes, fire door compliance, fire-fighting equipment, and workshop-specific hot-work activities such as oxyacetylene use, heat application processes and vehicle repair operations. We reviewed the storage and handling of flammable liquids, hazardous substance management, engineering controls, airbag inflator handling, traffic management systems and customer-facing risks within showroom environments.
Beyond assessment, Critical Path implemented a structured and user-friendly Health & Safety Management System tailored specifically to automotive workshop and retail operations. This included documented risk assessments, compliance registers, training recommendations, inspection schedules and ongoing monitoring procedures.
Through quarterly compliance reviews and continued advisory support, we provide ongoing fire safety consultancy, health and safety compliance management and operational risk reduction strategies. Our approach ensures that compliance is embedded into daily practice rather than treated as a one-off exercise, strengthening safety culture and reducing exposure to regulatory enforcement risk.
